The surftrip of a lifetime! Warm, crystal clear, turquoise water and perfect waves! Tropical climate, and only 9 hours flight away, Yet almost undetected in the Surfworld!
For the fifth time now, we are doing our winter camp in Sri Lanka. On the south, close to Galle, we have found a fantastic spot. Directly in front of our small hotel is a world class wave. On smaller days this can be taken on by inexperienced surfers. Just 10 minutes away, for beginners and advanced, there is a bay with the best waves for learning that we have ever seen anywhere, An absolute dream!
The accommodation is simple, clean and tasteful, situated right on the beach front. At sunset, after another unforgettable day of surfing, you can relax with cold beer under the palm tree roof overlooking the sea and waves. What more could you want!
There is of course, excursions to sights such as temples, natural parks and cities such as Galle.
A special bond was initiated by the Tsunami in 2004. It was our first stay, twith Ratna at his small hotel. We had already arranged with him a winter camp in the next November. 10 days after our return to Portugal, the tsunami devastated everything that Ratna had just built. We arranged a large collection donated by Friends of The Surf Experience (over 4000 euros). This represents a lot of money in Sri Lanka and it went directly to where it was needed. Ratna could build it all back and in 2005 we returned to his hotel from mid-November to mid-December.
This year (2009) we are going to Sri Lanka for one month longer from mid November to mid January (15.11.09 -> 15.01.10) and are looking forward to seeing you there!
Price per person for 1 weeks accommodation in a double room with breakfast and Surfing
Flight costs about 800 - 1000 euro. It really only worth it if you book for 2 weeks. We organize transfer from Colombo airport to the hotel and costs about 60-70 euros (combined per trip). This trip takes 4-5 hours and is perhaps the most exciting part of the journey. The traffic in Sri Lanka is out of this world!
Food is very cheap and a good dinner will cost 3-4 euro. Every day fishermen in the hotel and offer fish and lobster.
